Ask the Experts: Rewiring Your Floor Mixer

Don't Get Your Wires Crossed

If you are encountering a problem with your floor mixer, such as it running slowly, mixing in the wrong direction, or producing a loud chatter noise, we are here to help! These issues are typically caused by improper wiring on installation and have a quick fix. We have an outline of four simple steps to correct the wiring of your mixer and solve the issue you are experiencing.

For your protection, please be sure that the power to the mixer is shut off and the mixer is disconnected from the power supply!

1. With a Phillips head screwdriver, remove the two screws on the face of the plug and the other 2 screws on the base of the plug. Remove the white clamp so you can slide the plug cover out of the way.

2. Once the cover is removed, you will see 4 wires attached to the plug. One of these will be a green ground wire - do NOT move this wire! Using the screwdriver, loosen the connection on any (it does not matter which) 2 of the 3 remaining wires. Swap the connections and tighten them with the screwdriver.

3. Reinstall the plug cover and plug clamp and secure all 4 of the outside screws. Plug the mixer back in and ensure it is running properly in all gears.

4. The planetary should be spinning in the direction of the arrow located on the top of the mixer. We recommend testing the direction without a mixing tool attached, as the tool will rotate in the opposite direction of the planetary and may be confusing.
